Mobile Phones UK (100)

In summary, we feel that this is an excellent alternative to the 8800 Sirocco phone – it costs about the same, and it’s going to be just as exclusive. In many ways it’s a better phone with an improved LCD screen, a better keypad and the benefit of quadband. On the negative side it lacks a memory card slot and is rather heavy (just like the Sirocco), but the Nokia 8-series phones are about looks and exclusivity first and the 8600 offers both of these.

Phone Arena (90)

Nokia have proved that the devices of this series are not designated for people, who need everything in one device. Such customers would choose, for example, N95. This is a device for people who want to show off, to make a difference and to be unique, but not at the expense of the functional characteristics of a modern phone.

In terms of build quality and materials used, however, this handset is beyond competition today. In view of how popular all editions of the Nokia 8800 are, make no mistake about that – the Nokia 8600 Luna will be a bestseller on the market.

Another case of style over substance, but when the 8600 Luna has this much class, we’ll forgive its feature flaws.

It’s not the ultimate phone but it looks better than nearly all the competition – the quintessential high fashion phone.

Once again, style has triumphed over substance but if you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket and you’re after a trophy phone look no further.

GSMArena.com (78)

Luna is impossible to compare to regular handsets. There’s a lot lacking in terms of functionality: memory card, Mass Storage mode, miniUSB, 3G support, high-quality camera. Quite a few downsides, but all those seem exactly the functions people likely to buy a Luna will usually overlook. There are plenty of lifestyle gadgets to do all those jobs.

This is not a powerful phone, but a good, solid one that will definitely guarantee you more exclusivity than most of the phones on the market.

CNET (70)

The Nokia Luna 8600 is a beauty with good call quality, but we didn’t fall for its cramped keyboard and its poor speakerphone quality.

MobileBurn (70)

Yes, there are flaws and there are certainly complaints of the lack of features. Nokia definitely knows about this but heck, the Luna has always been more about form than function. If you seek the latest in technology and huge amounts of space to put all your photos, music files, and your massive amount of ringtones, then you are just not the buyer Nokia is targeting for the 8600.

BIOS (70)

With its distinctive styling, Nokia’s 8600 Luna is sure to turn heads. You’ll love the frosted glass sliding keypad and stainless steel case, and the bright halo and different sets of lights for each of your calls is a brilliant distraction. However, those requiring a good value messaging workhorse for day-to-day duties will be much better served elsewhere.

Nokia has really shot itself in the foot with the 8600 Luna. Build is a delight. Solid, classy and impressive. But as a camera or music phone it doesn’t approach being acceptable. In the end this heavily influences its value for money rating.

The Tech FAQ (60)

Despite its obvious good looks, the Nokia 8600 Luna is far too expensive and far too devoid of features to be considered as a worthy investment. It really is a shame that such a fancy looking phone can be assembled with so many glaring deficiencies.

As good as the 8600 Luna looks-<del>and it is pretty chic</del>-this phone doesn’t have enough substance to back up its style.
