The SCH-a930 does so many things so well you’ll wonder how you ever got by without it. This mid-range CDMA phone sports a slick clamshell design with an internal antenna, OLED outer display, and media keys on the front. Key features include EVDO high-speed data, a microSD memory card slot, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, and a speakerphone.

The Samsung SCH-A930 is a solid mid-range handset in Verizon’s line-up of VCast compatible phones. Something of a throwback, design-wise, the handset eschews the current trend of ultra-thin phones in favor of a more substantial obsidian black form with bold edges and strong sloping lines.

While this jet-black, nearly four-ounce 3G clamshell is a little bulkier than we’d like, it makes up plenty of ground with its rock-solid music capabilities, ability to sync tunes with a PC, vivid display, Bluetooth and built-in GPS. Meanwhile, road warriors will appreciate the phone’s speedy data and dial-up networking abilities.

The A930 is reasonably priced and we were overall pleased with it as a mid-range phone. The quality is better than the lower-end A870, which should only be purchased is you need Analog service, but it falls short of its big brother, the A990.

All of these extras wouldn’t mean much if the SCH-a930 stumbled in its intended purpose: communication. The phone maintained a strong signal in our tests, and we experienced hiccup-free calls, with good sound quality on both ends of the conversation. This clamshell features 3.8 hours of talk time.
