The TyTN II is sort of a revelation to the PDA phone world with its extremely long list of features and better still, it manages to run most of them well and smoothly. Along with its new tilt display design, it’s bound to set a new following amongst PDA phone manufacturers.

The Second TyTN is a welcome addition to the HTC family, being the Kaiser of the brand. It is worth naming it TyTN as it adds just what the phone needed – GPS chip for navigation. We are happy to see that the voice quality has been improved, the construction is moved to the next level (tilt display design, spring assisted mechanism and rubber back) and the software is customized with the TouchFlo technology we’ve known from the Touch.

This is a real power-house and, considering how much it does, you should never need to carry a second phone around.

As Windows Mobile 6 devices go, the TyTN II takes some beating. HTC has raised the bar with the feature list and improved keyboard usability dramatically with its display and keyboard engineering nous. Connectivity is excellent too. And GPS is a welcome and genuinely useful extra.

Pocket PC Thoughts

The most astonishing thing to me is that I cannot really find something substantial here that would cause me to ditch this phone for an upgrade, and for the first time I see myself possibly using the same phone for a prolonged period of time.

The Gadgeteer

The TyTn II is an evolutionary change from the original TyTn, with the latest version of Windows Mobile and many improvements, both small and large. If you already have a TyTn, the question of whether to upgrade might be a tough one — while few of the changes are significant enough to warrant an $800 upgrade all by themselves, taken as a whole the TyTn II seems significantly better than its predecessor.

Good Gear Guide

HTC’s TyTN II is one of the most outstanding smartphones we’ve ever reviewed. A few minor improvements and this could well have been a five-star product.

The only thing I’m really disappointed in is that, like, Riyad did with the Vario III, I’ve found that the camera is not particularly good, which is a bit of a let-down coming from the excellent K800i. The screen still isn’t particularly high res either, but I haven’t noticed it limiting the usefulness of the TyTN II, and other than these two small reservations, it’s pretty much the perfect device.

So although the HTC TyTN II will be a highly sought after gadget, we don’t find it to be the ultimate communication device. The particular mix of features will probably account for its high popularity but it fails to justify an upgrade from the original TyTN though, as the innovations it offers just don’t seem to balance with the swollen price. However the HTC TyTN II is a great option if you are upgrading from an older device, or if it’s your first step in the PocketPC world.

IT Reviews

It is the tilting screen that steals the show as far as the HTC TyTN II is concerned, but there are other factors that draw us to it as well. The plentiful features, good mini keyboard and software extras all add up to make the TyTN II a strong contender in today’s mobile device arena.

When the time comes to move away from my current mobile phone contract and upgrade from my current phone, this is going to be the handset I’ll be looking to replace it with. I can’t praise it any higher than that.

All up, these factors are one more proof of HTC’s ongoing strategy – step-by-step transition to mass-market models, elimination of Windows Mobile barriers, platform unification and faith in the brand’s image of the maker of classy and powerful solution.

The TyTN II is a little on the large side for a phone, but offers good connectivity options and a keyboard for those who need to access email and Office documents on the go. It also has GPS hardware support for those looking to use satellite navigation, but this costs extra and the Sat Nav software is not installed as standard.

Is the TyTN II revolutionary? Nope, but it¡¦s evolutionary and does a pretty good job. I can highly recommend it for most people.

Pocket-lint

The HTC TyTN II is a brick of a mobile phone that is as about as exciting as watching paint dry. However, with so much packed into the device you can’t help think that for the geeky mobile worker open to the idea of anything that is Microsoft powered this will be a wet dream come true.
