The DC10 is a decent first DVD cam showing from a reliable company. They’ve made some errors, but hopefully they will be corrected in the next generation. The first time is always the hardest.

We’ve yet to test a DVD-based camcorder that offers an uncompromising alternative to tape. Canon’s DC10 is a decent effort within its field, but cheaper tape-based camcorders still trump it for image quality.

Good Gear Guide

he DC10 presents a mixed bag. On the one hand, its DVD functionality means much greater flexibility than MiniDV camcorders. Conversely, the quality of its images could be better and its price tag is much greater than a similar MiniDV camcorder.

The DC10 represents Canon’s first attempt at a DVD camcorder. Biding their time has paid off for them, as far as performance goes. The video was incredibly sharp, if lacking in a little vibrancy.
