Need one gadget to do it all? The Motorola A1200 “Ming” phone is the answer. This Linux-powered PDA phone sports a 2-megapixel camera, a huge display, quad band support, plus all the bells and whistles you’d expect on a high-end handset, including Bluetooth, a music player, a document reader, and much more. And when you want to get down to business, there’s even a business card reader for rapidly capturing contact info.

djlosch.comI personally think this is the best phone on the market. It’s by far the smallest handheld I’ve seen, and most smartphones can’t compare to the feature set. I’ve read much criticism of smartphones and how “Americans want cell phones that only do one thing—make calls”, but that’s rubbish perpetuated by the ignorant and uninformed. Once you have a multi-feature handheld, you absolutely cannot go back. |

Mobile PhillipinesThe most kick-ass design feature of the Ming is the transparent plastic casing that shows off the Ming’s thin earpiece cable. Wow. Because of this elegance, small form factor and light weight, the Ming deserves a place in this decade’s most sexy phone designs. |

MobileBurnThe Motorola MING is quite the looker but when it came to performance, the sluggish and unfriendly Linux UI let it down. The exclusion of EDGE support is unfortunate. However, if you are a user of the previous A780, this might be a good upgrade for you since it is a wee bit faster and it does look much better. The business card reader application is also a cool piece of software. |
