The 6.3-megapixel Finepix S6000 is a advanced SLR-body-style digital camera with cutting-edge features designed to take your digital photo experience to new levels. The new S6000 digital still camera is the first Fujifilm Finepix product to feature Face Detection, a new technology designed to significantly improve your picture taking by identifying human subjects’ faces in the frame and in real time, determining the optimal focus and exposure settings for the absolute best results possible in any shooting conditions. And all of this at the touch of one button, conveniently placed on the back of the camera body for easy access.

Imaging Resource

Though the camera’s 6.3 megapixel imaging chip might not impress when stacked up against the sensors from some competing models which boast up to 10 megapixels of resolution, images I got out of this camera were rich in color and impressively sharp, even in a range of difficult shooting conditions. I’d take the Fujifilm S6000fd over many higher-resolution competing superzoom models, and even over some digital SLRs.

ThinkCamera

If I wanted to buy a bridge camera right now I’d get a Fujifilm S6500fd. If I wanted to buy a budget DSLR with a travel zoom then I’d also think long and hard about whether the S6500fd wasn’t a better choice. It’s between £50 and £100 cheaper than the S9600 and unless you need the extra pixels I think it’s a better buy. It will also save you £100 – £200 off the price of an entry level DSLR and be somewhat easier to live with. The face detection isn’t perfect – many times it just doesn’t work yet but I like to see it as a handy bonus. This is a great camera with face detection thrown in.

Digital Camera Review

The Fujifilm Finepix S6000fd is a very capable camera, packed with features that an experienced shooter will find very useful. In the hands of a beginner, the full capability of the camera won’t be realized, but it provides an excellent camera for someone who wants to “grow into” digital photography. There are enough automatic features to take “easy” shots, but then when the photographer is ready, so is the camera.

Steve's Digicams

The S6000fd is a very capable prosumer digicam. With its 6.3-megapixel imager, 28-300mm mechanically controlled zoom lens, extensive exposure and in-camera processing controls, automatic and advanced shooting modes, there’s little that you can’t do with this camera.

The Fuji FinePix S6000fd takes the “guts” of the popular FinePix F30 and puts it into a SLR-style body. It offers a 28 – 300 mm lens, manual focus and zoom rings, a big LCD, manual and automatic controls, and better than average high ISO performance. Yeah, it’s missing image stabilization (Fuji really needs to get on the ball in this area) and you need to go out of your way to get the best results at ISO 800 and above, but I ended up really enjoying using the camera.

Although it’s not quite an Editors’ Choice, this superzoom handles a variety of picture-taking situations very well and shoots great video.

Digital Photography Review

I must admit I didn’t really know what to expect from the S6000fd (having used some of its predecessors), and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a well designed, well executed and surprisingly versatile photographic tool. It’s probably not the best ‘point and shoot’ model in its class (you’ll get better results if you know what you’re doing), but the combination of features, output and unusually able high ISO performance means that – whilst far from perfect – it can easily hold its own against some of it’s more ‘high profile’ competitors.

TrustedReviews

The S6500fd is a very good camera for the price, with great handling, huge creative versatility and superior picture quality, but it suffers by comparison to the higher spec and similarly priced S9500 which is still available. The face-recognition technology is impressive, but really not all that useful. Will its outstanding high-ISO performance be enough to sell it?

DigitalCameraInfo.com

The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is one of the best digital cameras out there for portrait photography, but it doesn’t do well in other areas. It lacks image stabilization and its zoom ring is difficult to smoothly control, so movies are jumpy. The zoom and focus rings are great to work with when shooting still images, but don’t function well at all while shooting video.

If you’ve ever wished for a “photographer’s camera” with all the features you’ll ever need to learn and grow, including long zoom, wide-angle coverage, full exposure flexibility, ... the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd Zoom is probably the best there is currently.

While it’s not perfect, there is much to like and recommend about the Fujifilm S6500fd. However, it comes at a price – and at £370, it comes unnervingly close to that of a budget SLR.

CNET

The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is a solid superzoom that captures high-quality images with its wide, 10.7X optical zoom lens. Unfortunately, the camera lacks true image stabilization.
