Why Did We Create This Site?

When doing research before making a product purchase, we got tired of trying to keep track of all the various product comparisons and reviews.

So, we created ProductCritic to give you one location to find professional reviews of a particular product. We are more partial towards professional reviews as they are more thorough and of higher quality than reviews done by consumers (like us). The site also calculates a score of all the reviews and summarizes them to arrive at a ProductCritic Score for each product. This single rating provides a consensus of all the professional reviews of a product. Note that we don't actually review any products ourselves. We're consumers just like you and ProductCritic is just a tool to help you (and us) make purchase decisions easier.

If you are currently evaluating a few brands or models and trying to make a decision about which Digital Camera, Camcorder, or Cell Phone to purchase, you will immediately benefit from ProductCritic. You only need to compare the ProductCritic Scores to get a good idea if professional reviewers generally rate one product better than another.

Finally, all the expert reviews of a product are linked from the site so you no longer need to go searching the Internet for all the reviews. You'll be confident that you haven't missed any reviews which could help you make the right decision.

What Type Of Products Are Covered?

Currently, we are providing ProductCritic Scores for Digital Cameras, Camcorders, and Cell Phones. Why? Because those were products we are looking to purchase this year. The next three product categories we will be adding to ProductCritic are TV's, Laptops, and DVD Players. If there is a product category that you'd like us to cover in the future, please send us an e-mail.

We also try to include the top products in each category that we cover but if you are looking for a ProductCritic Score for a product that is not on the site, feel free to e-mail us and we'll do our best to cover that product.

What About Consumer Opinions?

We definitely think that there is a place for consumer opinions and they can be very helpful in providing an overall view of the satisfaction level people have of a product. Nevertheless, when we are doing research on a potential product purchase, we find that consumer opinions do not provide enough detail about the specifics of a product. We have currently chosen to focus on professional reviews as we feel they provide more details and we are more comfortable that the reviewers have a broader view of a product category range since, unlike regular consumers, they have the chance to try out a number of competing products in the same category.
